Strange numbers not denounced
If 10% have been infected, as she says, that is 1,700,000 people. The number of registered covid deaths is approximately 9,000. Then the IFR here would be about 0.6%. That is two to three times as high as what the WHO communicates and is beyond any margin of probability. It seems that De Correspondent is not well versed in the matter (and neither is Koopmans).
Other sources estimate much lower if they include comorbidities and expected death dates of terminal people or palliative patients.
The average age of Covid deaths in the Netherlands is above life expectancy. That is a compliment to medical elderly care, which keeps people alive for a very long time and thus boosts life expectancy. The latter process includes an important part of the healthcare budget, so that is also allowed. It now seems that we are able to keep the house of cards in the air until a breeze comes along. That is no reason to raise the storm flag for the whole of the Netherlands.
How do you get it out of your pen. Those virologists have blamed tuberculosis patients for poor hygiene for 40 years because they denied air contamination, 75 years for measles, ditto... We haven't made much progress in terms of mentality since the puerperal fever. Make an article about that.
