In the fight against "The Narrative", you will naturally consider how it is possible that so many people cling to a rambling pseudo-scientific narrative that relies mainly on the authority of the person who proclaims it and the media and scientists at its disposal. This morning, freethinker Robert Malone posted a blog article that puts things in perspective, along with synchronous phenomena in society. A broadening and deepening perspective that should not be missing on virus varia. Below is the translation. The original blog can be found here. Subscription to its Substack is highly recommended.
Cancel, Woke and Gender Dysphoria Culture; In search of shelter and protection
The world is a rough and turbulent place. There are differences of opinion. That is good.
Like many, I am deeply troubled by the ubiquitous rise of "Cancel" and "Woke" culture trends (including hypersensitivity to gender dysphoric pronouns and the advocacy of sex reassignment surgery in juveniles). However, my concerns aren't just about how this trend is harming politics, public discourse, or our schools, children, workplaces, and communities, or how it divides us all into different groups, tribes, and interests. In addition to all of the above, I am bothered by how this wave of offends came about. Why now? Why these problems?
In my experience, these kinds of social and cultural trends tend to be self-limiting and self-correcting. This, of course, ignores the effects of "algorithmic" (computational) reinforcement via legacy and social media that increasingly influence public dialogue and social trends. But why now, why this?
Consider the following hypothesis.
Looking over the current discussion space, those who advocate Cancel and Woke cultural patterns of behavior are people seeking shelter and protection from the rough and turbulent world of human cultural diversity and thought. And this tendency to seek shelter from unpleasant thoughts and ideas allows for the development of citizens with weak minds and poor mental health, who are psychologically fragile and ill-prepared for the roughness and turbulence of life in the real world.
That was a lot of words. Let's see if I can break that down into subparts. Here's the logic behind this idea.
1) Many psychologists consider "cognitive dissonance" to be the main cause of most psychological pain. What is cognitive dissonance? "Mental stress or discomfort experienced by a person who has two or more conflicting beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time" (Wikipedia).
2) Over the past two decades, there has been an increase in "Overprotective Parenting". Pamela Li, the founder and editor-in-chief of "Parenting for Brain", defines overprotective parents as those who "engage in surveillance behaviors that are excessive given the child's developmental stage and the actual level of risk in their environment."
· "The one-sided focus of overprotective parents is to keep their children safe, not only physically but emotionally.
· These parents are obsessed with the physical safety of their children, even though they usually live in a relatively safe environment. The levels of protection exceed the much lower level of actual risk.
· They are also concerned with maintaining the emotional well-being of their children by helping them remove all obstacles and absorb the blow of everyday life. "
3) Cancel, Woke and gender dysphoriaassociated patterns of behavior all share a core idea that individuals have an innate right not to encounter facts, ideas, or beliefs that are inconsistent with their own. The core position is that they have the right to encounter only authority-approved or approved information and ideas in their daily lives. Essentially, these belief systems revolve around the idea that people have the right to be protected from experiencing cognitive dissonance and the psychological pain that this mental process can bring. In short, the argument underlying these emerging cultural belief systems consists of an appeal to authority to serve as an overprotective parent and protect the individual from psychological obstacles and protect them from both the blows of everyday life and from all other individuals who think differently.
4) These patterns of behavior are often associated with a personal sense of victimization if the individual encounters someone who causes psychological stress or cognitive dissonance as a result of not sharing the belief system of the person who defines himself as a victim.
5) There is a significant overlap between the characteristics of children raised under overprotective parents and what I see in the statements and behaviors of people caught up in these current cultural trends (Cancel, Woke, and related behavior patterns). Traits of children raised by overprotective parents (per Pamela Li) include:
b. Lack ofcoping skills
c.Social anxietyandphobia
e.Depressionanddamaged sense of well-being
f.Low feelingandself-motivation
g.Poor conflict managementandpsychological self-defense skills
i.Feeling oflaw andmaladaptivenarcissism
j.Functional somatic symptomssuch as pain, fatigue and gastrointestinal distress
I leave it to you to determine which of these traits of children and adolescents you perceive in those who show the signs of Cancel, Woke, and related behaviors and communication patterns. In any case, I argue that many of these immature and dysfunctional behaviors of overprotected children are also observed in adults, particularly young adults, who invest heavily in cancel and woke cultural practices.
I've also come to believe that the urge for censorship and propaganda stems in part from the same need to be protected from unpleasant information, comments, and thoughts that can cause cognitive dissonance and some degree of psychological pain.
There are certainly many who actively use censorship, propaganda, and slander as tools to advance their political or socioeconomic agendas, and these same people or organizations may find that propaganda and censorship are highly complementary to other authoritarian methods of political control of populations.
But I am increasingly convinced that a large part of the population is looking for leadership that offers the comfort and safety of authoritarian parental substitutes. Many do not want to be free; They want to be told what the world is like, what to think and what to do. And for these many, propaganda, censorship, and authoritarian behavior in their leaders can satisfy what is essentially an immature, childlike need for shelter and protection from a confusing and rapidly changing world with its inherent diversity of thoughts, information, and opinions. And the multigenerational pressure from so many parents to protect their precious children from the risks and vagaries of life (and the environment) may have contributed to the rise in cancel and woke cultural practices. Our sheltered children have all too often grown into adults who can't bear the stress and anxiety inherent in a world of divergent opinions and thoughts. They just want to feel safe, like when they were a kid.
Again quoting from the article on overprotective parenting by Pamela Li:
"To raise resilient children, parents provide a safe haven in times of stress and during periods of rest. Set boundaries, but also consider adaptability.Only when children have the ability to interact effectively with the outside world can they develop into capable, resilient and socially responsive future generations.”
Or in short.
The masses want to be bullied and they don't care what this costs, as long as they feel safe.
Whether the cause is "only" with the parents I doubt, the government is no different than pampering. Age limits in movies, for example, or a chorus of a roller blind should be min. 1.5 meters above the ground are otherwise children hang themselves en masse and much more of that nonsense. The government takes a lot of responsibility away from parents and society through nonsensical regulations that are therefore unenforceable. The masses go along with it and the few have shit on everything and cause the nuisance and the government's solution is even more rules.
Rutte promises fewer regulations and there will be many more, including the constant lying of governments is widely accepted. How do you know if Rutte is lying? As soon as he says something.
Yes agree. Now the next thing: how do we get a safe and engaging story for the masses that offers more than the current lies that keep going in like cake? Without a better story, we are nowhere. The hard facts (cognitive) are threatening. We're not helping the masses with that. How? I'm worrying........and how much time do we have left?
Maybe with a TV series like the old "Van Kooten en de Bie" or the hilarious "Jiskefet" you could still reach people since people like to be entertained via TV. These programs were real with a critical and satirical opinion and approach. I'm sure something like this will have an effect, maybe not on everyone, but it will loosen tongues and make 😉 iig play thoughts
It may be that we grew up unprotected between 1937 and 1957, but learned to protect and choose. Anxious time brings good and bad into the light.
Firmly believe that the last generations come from n pamper culture. After the wartime there was not only freedom, but also progress and prosperity. Unfortunately, people don't think about what they do and don't know if they ever did. The fact is that the media determines opinion, operates and brainwashes like a god in the church. Since politics controls the media and people apparently prefer to get something chewed up rather than gain insight themselves; it looks more like a media addiction that we know (by now) just like smoking is bad for you, but it is so cozy and cozy on the couch in front of the tube with a fireplace on and a glass of wine and a cigarette. etc etc 😉.. And oh well let's hope it all blows over on its own; even though it is with air pollution and hypocrisy in rising costs which is all due to Russia of course.. And the rest of the natural disappears in our wood-biomass plants, but fortunately we do not see that because that comes from other countries that are being cut down.
In short, I am very happy to have found this site, since I live in a very small community and find few votes, is this really a relief for me not to feel like I am the only one who questions everything?!
Want to join us,
In 1940 my sister died, she was 16, because the medicines were not there in those first months of the war.
My Mother's brother was head of the NSB, she finally banished him from her memory and passed him by like nothing. She has never been to Germany again. Brother got 25 years.
What I am saying is that we are encountering a power that is effectively too great, but affectively does not exist. The mind is boundless, we also touched Lubbers by showing him our backs.
Think of the Power as a train, sometimes you have to get in, travel for a while and then get off again
