Fascinerend om te zien hoe grote angsten door een crisisverhaal worden geweven en hoe gretig mensen verklaringen oppikken die in hun kraam te pas komen. Zolang het hun ontslaat van verantwoordelijkheid tenminste: anderen krijgen natuurlijk 'de schuld'.
The picture below has been playing to each other for months as proof of the 5G chip in Covid vaccines. It's a sophisticated thing; there is even a volume control, so that Bill Gates' messages can be understood better. (It's just a diagram of a guitar effects pedal, probably started as a joke)
Het geeft maar aan: bied mensen houvast in een verhaal dat hun wantrouwen bevestigt en ze zijn voor elk karretje te spannen, zeker als ze machteloos staan bij tegenspoed. Bewijsvoering die ze eigenlijk niet begrijpen -het diagram kun je zien als symbool voor iets met 'wetenschap'- is geen enkel probleem: het is er en zorgt voor een 'Zie je wel, ik heb het altijd al geweten'-effect - en hopla: je hebt ze mee. Wantrouwen in nieuwe technologie is er immers altijd, net als wantrouwen tegen mensen die het beter doen (soms véél beter) dan wijzelf.
Whether it's 5G, Bill Gates' lust for power, the science fiction stories surrounding nanochips, or the abuse by a group of rich, lying, and profiteering exploiters, people are just waiting for it and eating it. Especially the last story: blaming a successful group of people, that turned out to be a successful strategy 65 years ago, with the difference that it was still linked to origin at the time. So that is really no longer possible nowadays.
