To combat the pandemic, face masks and isolation were introduced in many places, including schools. The Head Start programme (which only lifted the mask requirement for children this week) raised concerns about the impact of the COVID-19 rules on their pupils almost a year ago.

There have been reports of increased child abuse and child sexual abuse during the pandemic, likely due to stress and isolation. The lockdowns and other restrictions have led to spikes in diabetes and childhood obesity, and the scrapping of sports has had a major impact on children.

• In Paris and the surrounding area, head injuries to infants nearly doubled in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasing from 1.4 cases per month in 2020 to 2.7 cases per month in 2021 (adjusted incidence rate ratio [aIRR] 1.92, 95% CI 1.23-2.99, P=0.02).
• Mortality rates due to head injuries in infants have increased almost tenfold in 2021 (odds ratio 9.39, 95% CI 1.88-47.00).

Lockdowns

• A 2006 review indicated that lockdowns are both ineffective and harmful.
• Lockdowns should not be seriously considered because of their negative effects.
• The closure of schools and the use of experimental drugs in schoolchildren has had negative consequences for children in the US.
• Children have a low risk of serious illness or death from COVID-19
• Most transmission of COVID-19 to children comes from adults
• There is no evidence that open schools pose a significant risk to children, communities or teachers
• The median IFR for children under 19 years of age was 0.0003% during the pre-vaccination period (until the end of 2020)
• In countries with reliable death registration data, no additional deaths among children and adolescents have been identified during the pandemic.
• The number of fatalities among children under the age of 5 for all causes was 25-50 times higher during the lockdowns than in the previous five years.
• The total number of deaths among all-cause children during lockdowns was 4-10 times higher than in the previous five years.
• Closure led to a 10-20% increase in new cases of serious child abuse and a 50-80% increase in the number of child abuse fatalities.
• The number of cases of malnutrition increased by 30-50% and the number of deaths due to malnutrition by 50-100%.
• Lockdowns led to a 40-60% increase in new cases of mental illness in children and young people and an increase of 100-200% suicides by young people.
• Lockdowns caused a 50-80% drop in children's vaccination coverage, leading to outbreaks of preventable diseases.
• Lockdowns led to a 50-80% decrease in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases in children, leading to significant morbidity and potential long-term harm.
• Lockdowns had a negative impact on children's education and development, with long-term consequences for their prospects and well-being.

Vaccination

Given pandemic fears, some countries have begun administering vaccines to children. However, UK health authorities have long stated that the vaccine has been underperforming in children, and the country has started paying damages as a result. Germany, on the other hand, does not recommend the vaccine at all for most children.

Some courageous authors came together to take a closer look at vaccines. Their study assessed the risk and benefit of a booster of the COVID-19 vaccine for young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 at universities. The researchers found that to prevent one COVID-19 hospitalization in a 6-month period, 31,207 to 42,836 young adults would need to receive a third mRNA vaccine. The study also found that the booster measures for young adults are expected to cause net harm, with at least 18.5 serious adverse events for each prevented COVID-19 hospitalization.

These serious adverse events include booster-associated myopericarditis in men, which usually requires hospitalization, and grade ≥3 reactogenicity that interferes with daily activities. The researchers conclude that imposing booster mandates for young adults at universities is unethical because they do not take into account updated risk-benefit analyses for this age group, can lead to net harm for healthy young adults, are disproportionate to the expected benefits, violate the principle of reciprocity, and can have broader negative societal consequences.

One in 500 children under the age of five was hospitalized after receiving the vaccine. To prevent one COVID-19 hospitalization over a 6-month period, an estimated 31,207-42,836 young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 should receive a third mRNA vaccine.

• Per prevented COVID-19 hospitalization, at least 18.5 serious adverse reactions to mRNA vaccines will occur, including 1.5-4.6 booster-associated myopericarditis in men (which typically requires hospitalization).
• There will be, per occurrence of COVID-19 hospitalization, between 1430 and 4626 cases of grade ≥3 reactogenicity (disruption of daily activities, but usually does not require hospitalization).
• The prevalence and thus immunity of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection is high.
• Current vaccines do not significantly reduce transmission.
• The age at which the risk of myopericarditis is greatest is 16-17 years.

In what is perhaps the most unforgivable action to date, forced more than a thousand U.S. universities to take healthy students to take experimental vaccines voor een ziekte die een minuscuul risico vormt voor jongeren. The mental health problems caused by the urge and compulsion are legion among teenagers:

• 44.2% of high school students in a nationwide survey of 7,705 students described persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness that prevented them from participating in normal activities.
• 9% of students in the same study reported an attempted suicide.
• 55.1% of teenage respondents in the same survey said they had experienced emotional abuse from a parent or other adult in their home in the past year.
• 11.3% of teenage respondents in the same study said they had been physically abused.
