Een bezorgde vriend vroeg mij vorige week: "Ja jij lijkt het allemaal zo goed te weten, maar waarom weten die wetenschappers dat dan niet? Het kan toch niet zo zijn dat iedereen het zogenaamd beter weet dan de adviseurs van de overheid!? Dat geloof je toch zelf niet?"
Dan weet ik niet goed wat ik zeggen moet; de aerosolen-ontkenning is namelijk zó ontzettend beschamend dat het ongeloofwaardig is. Voor de gesprekspartners in mijn bubbel is dit allemaal gesneden koek. Voortaan laat ik bij die vraag, "hoe kan dat", de eerste paar minuten van onderstaand filmpje zien. Daar zijn professoren aan het woord, die beiden hun standpunten beargumenteren zodat iedereen zelf partij kan kiezen.

You have to be a kind of Machiavelli to lie your way out of that.
Small droplets, big consequences
Die overtuiging heeft enorme gevolgen voor de maatregelen, voor lockdowns, voor buitenactiviteiten, voor de "modellen", voor de horeca, voor het inschatten van seizoenseffecten en eigenlijk alles wat met besmetten te maken heeft - en dus met de neergang van de samenleving. Als je dat dus helemaal verkeerd ziet, dan doe je al gauw alles fout. En als er al een klein beetje goed lijkt te gaan, is dat bijvangst, zoals het stoppen van groepsbijeenkomsten en evenementen in slecht geventileerde ruimtes.
Now that the RIVM is building the seasonal effect into the models, I strongly wonder how they can continue to deny contamination via aerosols. I'm guessing on:
"We wisten het altijd al, maar aerosolen spelen alleen een iets grotere rol dan we hadden gedacht. Dat is voortschrijdend inzicht, wetenschap verandert voortdurend".
Presumed explanation in recognizing aerosol transmission
Aerosols are highly dependent on humidity and outside air ventilation - seasonal factors that the measures have never taken into account. The measures have done nothing at all to the indoor climate, where aerosols have free rein, whether you sit one and a half meters apart, wash your hands or wear a face mask. If you do not provide fresh or clean air, the virus is simply transmitted through the breath you share. Especially if you sit together in a classroom or office space all day.
If you ensure that a room is well ventilated and cleaned (think building code), you can do with much fewer restrictions.
