After less than a year of spreading disinformation, science journalist Maarten Keulemans still does not apologize.
Keulemans gebruikt in zijn stukje frasen als "intussen schreed het wetenschappelijk inzicht zich voort" en woorden als "inmiddels". Hij realiseert zich misschien niet eens dat hij nu, in februari 2021, flaneert met wetenschappelijke kennis uit maart/april 2020. Zijn stukjes zullen wel goed passen bij de boodschap die de Volkskrant wil uitdragen, anders snap ik het niet van zo'n krant (NRC, AD en Trouw zijn niet veel beter).
In March 2020 we already knew that a number of drastic and particularly harmful measures would hardly have any health effects because air transmission was (and is) systematically ignored. The 'fomites' are a good example of the inveterate dogmas that are still used by some state virologists today.
Keulemans pretends that it was a surprise from Covid-19 that those contact infections, specifically in Sars-CoV-2, were of minor importance. That is not true either. It has long been known from other viruses of flu-like diseases, well scientifically proven, also through experiments on laboratory animals and humans (with the cold virus). There was no reason to assume that this virus would behave differently.
Where is the (dis)information?
In the media, especially at media tables, experts are concerned about disinformation. Self-evident starting point: the major broadcasters and newspapers provide the 'correct' information and social media spread 'disinformation'.
If only it were that simple. In the media I follow, both MSM and social, it is rather the opposite.
It remains miraculous that in the severe flu season 2017/2018 there was an excess mortality of 9,500 and that this did not cause anything at all. Not in terms of care capacity, not in terms of prevention. The right prevention could have prevented the current misery.
We are now, while the second corona season is running, looking at an excess mortality of 13,000 (which is also negotiable: population structure and a mild previous year) and now the country is being brought to the edge of the abyss. With measures that have almost no effect, because the development of science is not closely followed and the media just keep honking around.
